Low energy solutions

We design low energy solutions for new buildings, retrofits, industrial plants, hospital installations etc.

At Balslev we consistently seek to recommend our clients the most optimal energy solutions. Low energy solutions designed by our engineers minimise energy consumption in buildings, plants and systems, and are usually based on well known, used and proven technology.

We have successfully designed a wide variety of low energy solutions for different application areas e.g.:

  • Optimisation of building envelope
  • Lighting
  • Plumbing systems
  • Heat pump systems
  • Heating, ventilation, air conditioning and cooling (HVAC) systems
  • Boiler plants
  • Central cooling plants.

Passive houses

To be able to advise our customers on the optimum solution, we strongly recommend to involve us earliest possible in the design phase. This has enabled us to deliver successful projects e.g. in the construction of passive houses, low energy houses and other low energy buildings.

A certified passive house meets several requirements with regards to e.g. maximum total energy consumption for heating, utility water and power, plus air tightness, according to the common European standard.

Energy savings

We also examine existing buildings and installations to provide our customers with an overview of the energy saving potential, e.g. in connection with energy labelling of buildings. As a basis for the client's decision making, we also conduct feasibility studies to estimate the pay back time for a particular energy optimisation solution.

CO2-neutral buildings

We can also design a new building and its installations like power supply, heating, lighting and cooling in a way so that its total CO2 balance remains neutral throughout its entire lifetime. We achieve this by chosing innovative solutions characterised by:

  • the lowest possible energy consumption
  • energy sources without any CO2 emission e.g. sun, wind and geothermal heat
  • heat recovery, ground water cooling etc.

The new head quarters of the company Widex is example of a CO2-neutral building

Mandatory energy labelling and energy savings

In Denmark energy labelling is mandatory for all buildings for sale or rent plus for buildings of >1.000 m2 (every 5. year).

In addition, owners of public buildings are obligated to implement energy savings showing a repayment time of < 5 years.
