Close Circuit TV (CCTV) surveillance of private properties and public domain is now accepted as a necessary part of our daily lives in order to prevent and investigate crimes, and to avoid vandalism
It has for many years been common practice for companies and public institutions to monitor their buildings and access routes using TV cameras, from which recordings are stored on video servers for a few weeks. Such TV recordings are useful tools for verification in case of incidents like burglary and vandalism, and to help security guards and the police respond to such events.
High quality TV recordings make it possible to recognise people, not only face recognition but analysis and recognition based on a person'e movement pattern is also possible.
Balslev's engineers are familiar with numerous examples, where CCTV havs prevented vandalism because of its preventative effect - and hence saved costs.
In recent years it has also become common to monitor public domains like streets, public transportation, shopping centres, apartment blocks and private homes. TV surveillance provides people with an increased sense of security, although most of us are still against this big brother phenomenon.
Internet based camera surveillance
It is very easy to set up a CCTV network when TV cameras are equipped with an IP-address. Thanks to the Internet, distance no longer matters. As a consequence, IP surveillance cameras are becoming more and more widespread and will in time replace analogue cameras. Other advantages of network solutions are centralised surveillance, now becoming a standard function, plus maintenance which can be centralised, resulting in reduced operational costs.
An important parameter in the design phase of a CCTV system is lighting. High demands are placed on a camera which has to operate in complete sunlight as well as darkness and moonlight - and still deliver usable, recognizable images. In the night, additional light has to be provided either in the form of normal white light, which also has a preventive effect, or infrared lighting, which is invisible to the human eye. Many cameras are also able to register movement and record sound, allowing for pictures only to be saved if there activity is registered in the monitored area.
For the design of CCTV systems, Balslev's customers also benefit from our lighting experts, who together with our IT expert, the architect and the camera expert create the optimum lighting conditions, which best suits the customer's demands.
